OUR THIRD BUILD
We are supporting the creation of Tiny Hands Nursery in Ghana, providing inclusive early years education, therapy & vital support for children with disabilities and their families.
Our third project sees us using our funds to help build a nursery in Ghana focused on early childhood education for those with special needs. A little different to our usual large school builds but equally as important.
Following months of hard work, the founders of Tiny Hands Day Care Nursery, a Ghana based charity, opened its doors last month, offering a much-needed nurturing and inclusive environment where children with disabilities such as Down Syndrome and Autism can thrive and grow.
Tiny Hands Founder Phyllis Antwi-Gyamfi said: “Our project aims to address the significant gaps in access to quality services and support for disabled children and their families.”
“Recent data from the Ghana Statistical Service indicates that approximately 8.7% of children aged two to 17 in Ghana live with a disability. However, access to appropriate care and education remains limited due to stigma, lack of inclusive facilities, and financial constraints. Our project aims to bridge these gaps and offer a lifeline for families in need.”
The nursery, located in Spintex, Accra, will accommodate up to 40 children, aged one to five-years old, per year. Funds have gone towards renovating a family home into a safe space, providing tailored educational programs and offering personalised care such as therapy sessions, medical support, and vocational training. Plans for community engagement programmes, to foster a better understanding of these disabilities and reduce stigma, are also underway.
While we remain behind the scenes on the project, we are enjoying watching the nursery thrive.
